Volunteer Content Manager

About the Society for Ritual Arts

The Society for Ritual Arts is a nonprofit, interfaith organization at the crossroads of art, science and spirituality. We publish a semi-annual, peer-reviewed journal, Coreopsis: Journal of Myth & Theater, as well as host events related to ritual arts. Our mission is to support the ritual arts community by advancing arts and scholarly research in the fields of spirituality, consciousness, healing, performance, and visual media. We support work that advances freedom of spiritual practices globally, the scientific study of spirituality and the human brain, and beauty in any media that inspires a spiritual sense of wonder, awe or connectedness. We are currently seeking 501(c)3 nonprofit status.

The Society for Ritual Arts is seeking a detail-oriented Content Manager. You must have experience with WordPress and a good eye for blockquotes and media. You should also have an interest in ritual arts and familiarity with the academic peer review process. Subjects that our community members are interested in run the gamut from shamanism to consciousness studies, spiritual healing, environmental stewardship, and international activism for religious freedom–not to mention spirituality-themed music, art and performance. Any and all faiths welcome! Or none! We are globally-minded and work with artists and scholars from very diverse backgrounds.

Our immediate need is to move content from several back issues of Coreopsis: Journal of Myth & Theater into a new website. Each will take roughly ten hours–less if you’re very familiar with WordPress. We also have recurring heavy content needs twice per year during the publishing phase of Coreopsis.

Your schedule is entirely up to you, but expect to put in at least 20-30 hours twice a year during publishing, with occasional activity in the months between issues.

For the right person, this could be a highly creative role that helps shape and define the aesthetic of a high-quality digital product at the center of an emerging community. As part of the Society for Ritual Arts team, there will also be ample opportunity for you to be involved with exciting events and to meet artists, musicians and scholars from all over the world.

  • In short: we give you content, you put it in WordPress
  • Make it look beautiful
  • If you’re up for it, define the overall aesthetic of each new digital issue by selecting a WordPress theme and tweaking it to your liking (and the liking of the Advisory Board)

  • Be able to dedicate roughly 30 hours over a two-week period, every six months
  • Experience using WordPress
  • Comfortable with hard deadlines
  • Open to feedback
  • Familiarity with academic publishing and the peer-review process
  • Familiarity with any of the academic fields of cognitive science, consciousness studies, religious studies, psychology, mythology, anthropology, ritual studies, theater and spirituality/religion, mythic studies or anything related (surprise us)
  • Enthusiasm for any aspect of ritual arts

You will report directly to the Brand Director, who sits on the Advisory Board. The Society for Ritual Arts is a nonprofit organization currently seeking 501(c)3 status.
