What in our personal and collective psyches makes us unable or ev<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">en unwilling to do so? How do emotions weave into these questions? \u2026 German-American psychoanalyst and social theorist Erich Fromm (1900-1980) offers answers to these questions. \u2026 Fromm, who coined the term \u201cbiophilia\u201d and devised a compelling theory about our psycho-emotional paradoxes long before \u201cclimate psychology\u201d became a buzzword.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Julia Ludewig \u201cErich Fromm\u2019s Biophilia\u201d Emotional Ecologies, # 7.\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Arctic Faroe islands, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">l\u00edvsandin<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means \u201cthe breath of life\u201d. We struggle to breathe as the Arctic ice melts and the skies darken with smoke from ever more fierce wildfires, as the toxins from industrial pollutants increase the carbon in the atmosphere and summers grow ever hotter and harsher. As stronger, more dangerous storms decimate the small towns and urban areas in North America\u2019s tornado alley and regions in the paths of typhoons and hurricanes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this issue we invite papers and essays that explore the shape of the future and the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">psycho-emotional paradoxes <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as described above by Julia Ludwig that get in the way of a survivable future.\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What stories will we tell each other that will seed the changes in how we live, where we will live, and how our children, grand and great-grandchildren will survive and thrive?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/societyforritualarts.com\/coreopsis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Spring2014-153-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2172\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/societyforritualarts.com\/coreopsis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Spring2014-153-scaled.jpg?resize=451%2C338&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"451\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a>We invite papers on the topics of interdependence, mutual aid, ecological activism, and what Erich Fromm called \u201cbiophilia\u201d long before eco-psychology was coined,\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe passionate love of life and of all that is alive; it is the wish to further growth, whether in a person, a plant, an idea, or a social group.\u201d Erich Fromm on \u201cBiophilia\u201d, 1973. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This journal accepts papers from many disciplines and is welcoming of all faiths and philosophies. We publish 3-5 papers per issue that have been peer-reviewed according to academic standards. Final submissions should be 3,000 to 10,000 words.
