Coreopsis Journal of Myth and Theatre and  Roses and Wildflowers are the publications of The Society for Ritual Arts, a non-profit engaged in the ritual, sacred, folk arts and in the exploration of mythopoeia in all creative mediums. These journals are envisioned as parallel publications that will share issue themes and some editorial overlap.

Coreopsis Journal of Myth & Theatre is the brainchild of artist, writer, and scholar, Lezlie Kinyon, and a tiny group of scholars and artists who work in ritual, myth and the sacred arts. We have a broad mandate to publish peer reviewed papers, insightful essays and editorials. Each issue features a profiled artist and pages for announcements of new books and music, festivals and conferences of interest, and has been in publication since 2010.

Roses and Wildflowers. As an idea this creative venture of a “sister” publication to Coreopsis Journal was on the table for years.
Rose Spinne, artist, poet, and founding member of the Society for Ritual Arts, started the process really early in the organization. Sadly, Rose was diagnosed with cancer and didn’t live to see her contributions come to fruition. We miss her faery spirit and her wisdom. Rose also left copious notes and the editors hold the legacy of that vision as we work. May her spirit live on in these pages spinning new tales.

Rose created the name, “Roses and Wildflowers” imagining that the fiction featured in this journal would be the “roses”: climbers, ramblers, and tea roses forming the boundaries of a “beautiful garden of creativity” and the wildflowers the poetry and art “growing steadfastly with grace and fortitude” in all of the pathways and corners. So the journey began…

We kept the name and in the Summer of 2023, it just seemed the right moment to make it all happen. We sent out a call for submissions. We had no idea if anyone would answer! We only had the budget for 4 stories and 4 poems.

By June, we had well over 50 submissions and by September when the first readers and editors met to select the stories and poetry there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 150. It was a very hard choice, and due to the generosity of a few, we were able to add to that number of accepted pieces.

There are a small cadre of volunteers who put both Roses & Wildflowers and her elder sister Coreopsis Journal of Myth & Theatre together. We acknowledge these passionate and dedicated folk here with gratitude.
