Artist in Residence: Carly J.J. Turner

Abstract

Hello, my name is Carly J.J. Turner, aka Mede Potawatamig Ikwe. I am O’Jibway, a medicine woman, hollow bone and pipe-carrier.

I am honored to be selected as the 2020/2021 Artist in Residence by Society for Ritual Arts and am very happy to add my vision to Coreopsis. I have hoped to work on bigger projects as an expression of my medicine work and am delighted to have this chance.

One of my names I carry is Journeyhawk so working on this issue has been inspiring.

Part of the cover was dreamt of, some of the colors given to me by spirit. As I painted it I sat with Raven feathers hanging above me. Journeys and Quests are what we do as humans, it’s important to think on these archetypes and how deeply ingrained they are in our genetic.

I have written and been involved with Coreopsis Journal of Myth & Theatre before so I am incredibly excited to be more deeply involved with such lovely people, writers, artists and readers alike.

See you in the fall.  Be weird and love forever, Carly.
